This introductory course is required by New York State for all individuals seeking to become licensed security guards. Before applying for a security guard registration card, candidates must complete this 8-hour training as part of the licensing process under the Security Guard Act of 1992.
This course is offered in both in-person and virtual formats, depending on the selected session.
This course provides foundational knowledge and expectations for new guards, including:
The role and responsibilities of a security guard
Legal powers and limitations under NYS law
Emergency situations and response protocol
Public relations, ethics, and professionalism
The importance of proper incident documentation
Completion of this course is mandatory before submitting your application for a Security Guard Registration Card with the New York State Division of Licensing Services. A certificate of completion will be issued upon passing the course, whether attended in person or virtually.
